Currently, Dr. Shun-Wei Liu is the director of Organic Electronics Research Center at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT). Under his leadership, a team with multinational researchers ceaselessly focuses on the development of organic electronic devices for various applications. Recently, Dr. Liu has introduced the Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology for the head-up display in car. Dr. Liu cooperated with the OLED manufacturer in Taiwan to fabricate the display panel.

The transparent OLED device enjoys special features such as high brightness (more than 10,000 nits) and transparency over 80%. Moreover, the device in combination with thin film technology acts as ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness of the OLED display panel automatically as well as converts an external light source into electrical energy to power the device for an extended period.

The technology mentioned above enabled Dr. Liu to receive the “Excellent Technology Transfer Contribution Award 2017”. He is honored as one out of ten winners of the “Technology Transfer Contribution Award.” The purpose of the award is to appreciate and encourage the researchers and their teams who are active in the research and development. To compete for the “Technology Transfer Contribution Award”, the research project must be fully subsidized by the Ministry of Science and Technology Taiwan, and the development profit must exceed NT$1 million.

Since 2003, the total winner of this award has always been less than ten persons. Majority of the previous winners were from the top universities’ research center in Taiwan and just few winners were from the technical universities. The award received by Dr. Liu not only demonstrates the significant contribution of MCUT in technology but also establishes an important breakthrough in the research and development for the universities of technology.
